Description

A delicious and easy Chicken Shawarma with a flavorful garlic sauce, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • Pita bread or flatbreads for serving
  • Sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a spacious bowl, mix together the olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, salt, and pepper. Ensure the ingredients are well combined. Next, place the chicken thighs in the bowl to fully coat them with the marinade. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least 60 minutes or, for best results, overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat, around 375°F. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess drip off. Cook the marinated chicken for 6-7 minutes per side or until the juices run clear and the chicken is thoroughly cooked. Look for a golden-brown exterior and listen for that satisfying sizzle as it cooks.
  3. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the garlic sauce. In a separate bowl, combine the plain yogurt, lemon juice, tahini, and a pinch of salt. Mix until the sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Once cooked, slice the chicken into thin strips. Serve it in warm pita bread or flatbreads, generously topping it with the garlic sauce. Finally, garnish your dish with fresh sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce for a refreshing crunch.

Notes

For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper to the marinade. Marinating overnight enhances flavor depth.
