Description

A crispy and juicy Chicken Fried Chicken recipe, served with a comforting white gravy. Perfect for family dinners or gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 6-8 thinly sliced chicken breasts
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbs hot sauce
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup reserved oil from frying
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt & pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Prepare the oil: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan on the stove until it reaches 325°F.
  2. Create the dry mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce until smooth.
  4. Dredge the chicken: Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Then, dip it into the egg mixture followed by another coat in the flour mixture.
  5. Fry the chicken: Place the breaded chicken pieces into the hot oil carefully. Fry each side for about 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. Make the gravy: Add 1/4 inch of reserved oil from frying to a large pan and heat on medium-high. Stir in 1/3 cup of flour and cook until absorbed, about 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring consistently to blend.
  7. Serve: Pour the gravy generously over each chicken breast before serving.

Notes

Can be served with mashed potatoes, corn, or green beans. Reheat leftovers in the oven to maintain crispiness.
