Description
A comforting dish combining orzo pasta, Italian sausage, and a creamy garlic Parmesan sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 Italian sausages, casing removed
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, breaking it into small pieces with a wooden spoon, for about 5-7 minutes, until browned and cooked through.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant.
- Stir in the orzo and pour in the broth, bringing the mixture to a gentle boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is al dente and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
- Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, mixing until smooth.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Notes
For a healthier twist, use turkey sausage. Substitute sausage with sautéed mushrooms and heavy cream with cashew cream for a vegan option.
