Description

Delightful heart-shaped macarons perfect for Valentine’s Day and special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 2 large egg whites (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • Red food coloring (optional for filling)


Instructions

  1. Sift the powdered sugar and almond flour together into a bowl and set aside.
  2. In a clean mixing bowl, whisk the egg whites until soft peaks form, then gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. Fold the sifted mixture into the egg whites gently and add food coloring if desired.
  4. Transfer the batter into a piping bag and pipe heart shapes onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Let the piped macarons sit for 30 minutes to 1 hour to form a skin.
  6. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake for 18-20 minutes until firm.
  7. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  8. Add heavy cream until smooth, and tint with food coloring if desired.
  9. Once shells are cooled, pipe filling onto one shell and sandwich with another.
  10. Refrigerate for 24 hours for best flavor and texture.
