Lovely heart-shaped macarons perfect for special occasions like Valentine’s Day and anniversaries.
Ingredients
- 1 cup almond flour
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 egg whites
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Buttercream or filling of choice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- In a bowl, sift together almond flour and powdered sugar.
- In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until foamy, then gradually add granulated sugar while beating until stiff peaks form.
- Add vanilla extract and food coloring (if using) to the meringue.
- Gently fold in the almond flour mixture into the meringue until combined and the batter flows like lava.
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag fitted with a heart-shaped nozzle. Pipe heart shapes onto a lined baking sheet.
- Let the piped macarons sit at room temperature for 30-60 minutes until a skin forms.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool completely before filling with buttercream or desired filling.
Notes
Make sure your egg whites are at room temperature for better whipping. Be gentle when folding the almond flour mixture into the meringue to keep the light texture.
