Description

A comforting and hearty German dish featuring sautéed cabbage and soft dumplings, perfect for cozy dinners and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Water (for boiling)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add the chopped cabbage to the pot, cooking for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, pepper, and baking powder. Create a well in the center, then add the eggs and milk, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. With wet hands, form the dough into small dumplings, about the size of a golf ball.
  5. Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until they float.
  6. Combine the cooked dumplings with the sautéed cabbage and onion in the pot. Stir gently to coat the dumplings in the flavorful mixture.
  7. Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs like parsley or chives.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Experiment with flavors by adding spices or herbs to the cabbage.
