Description
A comforting and hearty German dish featuring sautéed cabbage and soft dumplings, perfect for cozy dinners and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cups flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- Water (for boiling)
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and fragrant.
- Add the chopped cabbage to the pot, cooking for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, pepper, and baking powder. Create a well in the center, then add the eggs and milk, mixing until a dough forms.
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. With wet hands, form the dough into small dumplings, about the size of a golf ball.
- Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until they float.
- Combine the cooked dumplings with the sautéed cabbage and onion in the pot. Stir gently to coat the dumplings in the flavorful mixture.
- Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs like parsley or chives.
Notes
Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Experiment with flavors by adding spices or herbs to the cabbage.
