Ingredients
- 1 loaf of French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for caramelizing)
- Optional: Fresh berries and whipped cream for serving
Instructions
- Cut the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in a baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are soaked properly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the French toast for 30-35 minutes or until set and golden.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crispy.
- Serve warm, topped with fresh berries and whipped cream if desired.
Notes
For the best flavor, use day-old French bread. Cover and refrigerate the bread soaked in custard overnight for better results.
