Description

A flavorful and satisfying Chicken Shawarma served with a creamy garlic sauce, perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pita bread for serving
  • Fresh vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce) for garnish


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well blended.
  2. Add chicken to the marinade, making sure each piece is coated. Marinate for a minimum of 1 hour in the refrigerator, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and fully cooked.
  4. While the chicken cooks, prepare the garlic sauce by mixing minced garlic, yogurt, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl until smooth.
  5. Once cooked, let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  6. Serve wrapped in warm pita bread, topped with garlic sauce and garnished with fresh vegetables.

Notes

For a healthier option, use lean chicken breasts. Tofu can be substituted for a vegetarian version.
