Description
A flavorful and satisfying Chicken Shawarma served with a creamy garlic sauce, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Pita bread for serving
- Fresh vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce) for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well blended.
- Add chicken to the marinade, making sure each piece is coated. Marinate for a minimum of 1 hour in the refrigerator, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and fully cooked.
- While the chicken cooks, prepare the garlic sauce by mixing minced garlic, yogurt, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl until smooth.
- Once cooked, let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
- Serve wrapped in warm pita bread, topped with garlic sauce and garnished with fresh vegetables.
Notes
For a healthier option, use lean chicken breasts. Tofu can be substituted for a vegetarian version.
