Description

A delicious twist on classic French toast with a rich custard base and a caramelized topping, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Butter for greasing
  • Fresh berries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in the baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, making sure each slice is coated.
  5. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 120 minutes or overnight.
  6. Before baking, sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  9. Optionally, garnish with fresh berries and serve with maple syrup.

Notes

For best texture, use day-old French bread and let it soak in the custard for at least 2 hours or overnight.
